Mocs Prepare For SoCon Showdown With Mercer

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) It may be the biggest FCS game in the country this weekend.
8th ranked Chattanooga hosting 11th ranked Mercer.
Both teams are unbeaten in SoCon play, and looking for the inside track to the league title.

Mocs sure hope this year’s meeting against Mercer goes better than the last one. UTC had five turnovers. Missed three kicks. And lost 10-6.
Said offensive lineman McClendon Curtis:”That was a game where anything that went bad happened. Both sides.”
Said defensive back Reuben Lowery:”It was definitely a gut-punch, but at the same time, it just gave us more and more fuel for this year and next year just to not. Try not to have that same feeling again.”
Mercer has been a thorn for the Mocs lately. UTC has only one win in the last five meetings.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”They don’t like us for some reason. I don’t know what it is. For whatever reason they get jacked up and pumped up for us. Good. I mean we talk about it all the time. We talk about it during the off-season. We talk about it during the week. We get everybody’s best shot. There’s no doubt about it. That’s a good thing I guess.”
This year Mercer heads to Chattanooga with the top scoring offense in the SoCon.
Said Wright:”Quarterback is playing better. Quarterback is a lot better. I think he has thrown for 20 touchdowns and one interception. Just has a really good understanding of the offense.”
It’s a top 15 showdown at Finley Stadium. Biggest home game of the Rusty Wright era maybe?
Said Wright:”First one was pretty big for me. I stepped out there for the first time. They’re all relevant. They all matter in the grand scheme of things. I mean I guess if everybody wants to call it that way. Like I said we’ve got four games left. It’s not like this is the last game of the season.
Said Curtis:”It’s definitely exciting. If you’re not fired up for this game, I don’t know if you like football.”

Kickoff Saturday is set for 1:30. UTC is asking fans to wear white for a ‘white-out’.
