Mocs Put on Punt Blocking Clinic in Win Over North Alabama

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Mocs best play against North Alabama was when the Lions had to punt.
Chattanooga got the double whammy, blocking two punts.

And it was the way they did it that was so cool. They shoved the up back into the punter.

Quay Wiggles had one shove that saw the punt ricochet off the Lions up back. Ty Boeck swooped in for a scoop and score.

Earlier in the game…same drill. Mocs John Prince sends the up back sailing backwards into the kick. Another block.

Mocs recovered near the one and later punched it in. You rarely see punts blocked like that, but it doesn’t surprise head coach Rusty Wright.

Said Wright:”It’s close to happening a lot during the course of the season. Not just for us. You watch college football. Most people don’t see it because the punt gets off. But there’s a lot of times where it is supposed to hit those ump backs and things like that. We just had two kids that didn’t take the play off, and they did. That’s why good things happen. That’s how it is.”
Reporter:”I bet in college football history. A team blocks two punts in a game. I bet their record of winning is pretty high.”
Wright:”You block one it goes up tremendously. Just getting one it goes up to about 85 percent. Two it’s pretty certain you are going to have an opportunity to win a football game.”

Chattanooga is now tied for the FCS lead in punt blocks this season with two.
