Mocs QB Cole Copeland Brings Unexpected Experience to Spring Practice
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Mocs quarterback Cole Copeland was expected to redshirt during his freshman year last season. Instead, he wound up leading the team in passing.
Injuries at the the quarterback position forced Copeland to start six games last year, where he threw for over 1,100 yards, but he also had 11 interceptions as UTC went 3-8.While the Mocs may have wanted to redshirt Copeland, now it’s not such a bad deal having Copeland with that much experience as UTC has started up spring drills.
Said head coach Tom Arth:”It certainly is benefiting him. It is benefiting him as a leader. It’s benefiting him as a player in our program. I think that you have seen. You’ve seen him mature. You have seen him grow.”
Said Copeland:”If I would have just redshirted, I would not have no where near the confidence that I have coming into this year. Five or six starts under my belt. Obviously some didn’t pan out the way they needed to be or the way I wanted it to go of course. But I think I have a lot to build on. This team has a lot to build on from last year at the end of the season.”
