Mocs Set a School Record in Dominating Win Over the Citadel
Chattanooga-(WDEF) When the Citadel coaches said last month that Mocs forward Tre’ McClean wasn’t tough enough to play for the Bulldogs, UTC fans ran with the tough enough theme on Monday night.
Chattanooga certainly played tough, beating the Citadel 125-85.
Mocs head coach Matt McCall was glad to see his team didn’t get swept up in the ‘Tough Enough’ mantra on Monday, although the Mocs certainly played like an inspired team.
Said McCall-“We fought the human nature element of it and played the right way. Went out and did our job. I really feel like it was a business-like win.”
The song ‘Tough Enough’ even played during a late timeout.
Reporter-“Did you hear them play that song tough enough at the end of the second half?”
Said McClean-“Somebody came and said they did it, but I didn’t hear it. Probably wasn’t paying attention.”
Added guard Dee Oldahm-“I didn’t catch it either. I missed that.”
The Citadel heard from McClean. He had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and two steals.
McCall-“I wouldn’t trade that kid for the world. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. He brings it every single day. He works so hard, and this team and this program is so important to him.”
The Mocs 125-points were a school record against a D-One opponent.
Oldham-“We started executing. And we opened it up a little bit. When you play the right way and play together, then things like that tend to happen.”
Reporter-“Did you feel like Golden State tonight?”
Chuckled Oldham-“No. I felt like Chattanooga.”
McCall-“You shoot 47 free throws. I don’t know if I’ve ever been apart of a game shooting that many free throws.”
Chattanooga has one of the best records in the country at 19-3.
McCall-“If we deserve to be in the top 25, we’d be in the top 25. It’s about the next game and the next opponent. We’re chasing something right now.”
