Mocs Set to Face Western Carolina’s Baller at QB in Taron Dickens

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Patrick Mahomes of college quarterbacks will play in Chattanooga this weekend.
Western Carolina’s Taron Dickens.
In just five games, Dickens has thrown for nearly two-thousand yards.
And he’s completing nearly 80-percent of his passes.

Taron Dickens has been putting up crazy numbers this season.
Unheard of numbers.
He set the NCAA record this year for most consecutive passes completed in a game at 50.
Said Mocs head coach Rusty Wright:”He’s probably playing as well as any quarterback in the country. It’s not even close.”
Reporter:”He threw it 56 times in that one game. As a coach, would you ever throw it 56 times?”
Wright: (pause) “I mean if I had to. That’s the thing if I had to. We’re going to do whatever we have to do to try and win a football game. If that means throwing it that much, we’ll do it. I don’t know if I have enough wideouts to throw it 56 times.”
Dickens made his first ever college start last year against Chattanooga.
He threw for 431-yards as the Catamounts beat UTC 38-34.
Said linebacker Zion Rutledge:”There was one play specifically where I was so worried. He’s good at extending plays. I was so worried about getting him on the ground that he floated one right over my head.”
Dickens ain’t big either.
He’s listed at 5’11.
Rutledge:”I always say if you’re a baller, you’re a baller. Myself I’m 5’10. Personally I think whatever size you are if you’re a baller, you’re a baller man.”
So what will it take from the Mocs defense to contain this Catamounts threat.
Wright:”We’ve got to do as well as we can to keep him in the pocket. Change the looks up on him as much as possible on the back-end.”
Mocs offense will likely need to be dialed in as well for Chattanooga to compete.
Said receiver Jamarii Robinson:”It’s going to be a fight. As long as the offense continues to put points on the board, that’s going to give the defense juice to go out there and get us a couple of stops. We’ve got to come back out there and do what we need to do.”
