Mocs Have Six of the Top 11 Players in the SoCon According to SouthernPigskin.com
(GOMOCS.COM) As we get closer to the start of the 2016 college football season, more and more publications are starting to put out their preseason predictions. SouthernPigskin.com, a website that covers college football in the South, recently released its top 25 players in the Southern Conference.
As expected, the Mocs dominated the listings with six of the top 11 players in the league. The Citadel was next with five of the top 25, followed by Samford with four and Wofford and Mercer with three each.
Consensus preseason All-American Corey Levin (6-5, 305) topped the list. The senior offensive lineman is a two-time winner of the SoCon Jacob’s Blocking Award and is one of the top NFL prospects in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Another NFL prospect on the Mocs’ roster is senior defensive end Keionta Davis (6-4, 270), who is No. 3 on this list. Davis’s 13.5 sacks in 2015 set a UTC single-season record. He is also a consensus preseason All-American and one of the top defensive players in the nation.
Fifth on SouthernPigskin.com’s ranking is junior defensive back Lucas Webb (6-1, 205). Webb is a two-time first-team All-SoCon selection, who is currently tied for the league record with three career pick-6s.
Senior running back Derrick Craine (5-10, 205) is right behind Webb at No. 6. Another first team All-SoCon performer, and an Academic All-American, Craine broke the Mocs’ single season rushing record with 1,251 yards in 2015.
No. 8 on the list is senior linebacker Nakevion Leslie (5-11, 225). A two-time All-SoCon pick, Leslie was second in the league with 14.0 tackles-for-loss last season.
The last Moc in the top-25 is senior Cedric Nettles (6-0, 205). The two-time first team All-SoCon player is No. 11 in the league, according to SouthernPigskin.com. He has played in 37 career games with 26 starts over the last three years.
