Mocs Softball Set to Start New Season in Remodeled Indoor Practice Facility
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Even though it’s freezing outside, the college softball season is just around the corner. The Mocs have already started practice.
Good thing they have a sweet indoor workout arena.
Looks like HGTV has hit the Mocs practice facility.
They’ve remodeled and expanded their indoor facility, including a new area for pitching, and a new area for hitting.
Said head coach Frank Reed:”Gives us a lot more square footage. Practices go a lot quicker. Get more done.”
Said pitcher Allison Swinford:”Walked in the first time and I was like this can not be real because the pitchers have their own area. Infield has their own area. Hitting has their own area. It’s literally the best set-up I could possibly think for us.”
And it appears UTC will carry enough arms to make the pitching area a little crowded.
Said Reed:”We stabilized our pitching staff a little better. We’ve got a really strong pitcher in Mariah Ramirez from California.”
Said Swinford:”I really think we are strong going into the season. I think we have a lot of depth that we really didn’t have last year. I think that’s going to be a good task for us to have all of us together pitching side-by-side.”
The Mocs offense may step up with some pep their step.
Said Reed:”What we thought was speed last year is no where close to what we have now. So we have gotten that much stronger speed wise.”
Reporter:”When you’re in the circle, do you hate opposing teams when they have speed?”
Said Swinford:”I hate opposing teams when they have speed yes because it makes you think. You always have to be on your toes. If they lay a bunt down, how quick am I going to get to that bunt. How quick am I going to react. But I think people should be scared of us because we do have some speed this year, and I’m pumped for us to use it.”
With 16 letter-winners back, Coach Reed hopes he has a winner this spring.
Said Reed:”We feel pretty good about things. I tell them if we don’t win the conference this year, it’ll be assistant coaching. (chuckles) Just kidding.”
