Mocs Softball Team Counting on Three Freshmen Pitchers to Start New Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs softball season is just around the corner.
Their season starts on February 10th.
Chattanooga will have to count on a trio of freshmen if they plan to win the SoCon title.
If there were softball drills for not getting hurt, UTC would like to know what they are.
Injuries were a major problem last season.
Said first baseman Jesslyn Stockard:”We had to count heads on the bus like who was healthy before we would get off. It was a mess.”
Said head coach Frank Reed:”Well I think the thing that excites me the most is the fact that most of us are healthy. Going into the season last year we had injuries and that just complicated itself moving forward.”
Chattanooga finished last season with a 30-29 record.
Said Reed:”As I access the season at the end, 30 games is a ton of ballgames to win. We lost 10 more by one run, so had we won those other ten that we lost by one, we’d had a 40-game win season, and that would have been considered a successful season.”
UTC can’t afford any injuries to their pitching staff because they have only three pitchers total, and none have college experience.
Reporter:”So your whole rotation is freshmen?”
Said Reed:”Yes. So that’s going to be exciting for us.”
Reporter:”The whole pitching staff is freshmen. Does that seem even odd to you?”
Said freshman pitcher Celie Hudson:”Yes it does. We had a bunch leave over the summer, but we’re going to do our best to get the team through.”
Added freshman pitcher Payten Price:”I’m a little nervous, but I think the challenge will be good, and I think we can take it on together.”
Despite a youthful rotation, the Mocs still expect to make a run at the Socon title.
Said Reed:”Our goal is to be back where we were. It’s time for us put another ring on their fingers hopefully.”
