Mocs Still Clinging to Playoff Hopes Heading Into Regular Season Finale
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Chattanooga’s playoff chances may be on life support after their loss to Samford.
UTC is now 6-5 overall, but they hope to maintain a playoff pulse with a victory over Austin Peay in their regular season finale.
Said defensive back Jordan Walker:”There ain’t no doubt in my mind this squad is a playoff team.”
Jordan Walker believes Chattanooga should be in the playoffs.
His head coach is right there with him if the Mocs beat Austin Peay.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”You know 7-3 against the FCS. Got a shot. Got a shot. There was some consolation when I got home Saturday when I started looking at scores from across the country at our level. Bunch of people lost to some folks that they shouldn’t have lost to. On paper they shouldn’t have lost to.”
‘Let’s go Peay’ is the famous cheer for the Governors.
Maybe it’s the same for Chattanooga with the ‘P’ standing for playoffs.
Said Walker:”Every guy that steps out there on that field is playing for the man beside him. Great talent on top of that. This team is definitely a playoff contending team.”
Said offensive lineman Bryce Goodner:”We were talking this morning about trying to send out our seniors the right way. Regardless, I don’t think any of us are losers. If we win, like you said, our playoff hopes are definitely looking a lot better for us.”
24 teams make the FCS playoffs.
Ten get automatic bids as conference champs.
That leaves 14 at-large bids to fight for.
Reporter:”Do you think the playoff committee for FCS is a little bit better or functions maybe a little differently than the FBS committee?”
Said Wright:”You know. I don’t know if either one of them has a football coach on them. So not sure about either one of them honestly. No offense to them. They’ve got a job to do, and it’s a thankless job because nobody is going to be satisfied. No question about it. I just find it hard to believe there’s not a retired football coach or somebody on there that truly knows football.”
