Mocs visit Chattanooga Market for ‘Team Spirit Day’

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Market hosted a ‘Meet the Mocs’ Team Spirit Day that included various teams from UTC.

Student athletes met at the market Sunday afternoon to sign autographs and preview their respective seasons.

Coming off the first official week of school at UTC, Mocs can look forward to the upcoming sports seasons.

“It’s a great community opportunity. The Chattanooga Market does a ‘Team Spirit Day.’ It’s a great chance for our student athletes to engage with the community, to meet everybody out there who wants to come by and get autographs. For us to also talk about our ticket packages, and what’s coming on this season in the fall, with all the sports starting up. Volleyball, soccer, football is already starting. It’s just a really good opportunity for us to get out of that hometown team and meet the community,” Deputy AD for External Operations (UTC) Andrew Horton said.

Different teams were featured every hour on Sunday afternoon.

Players signed posters and met with their supporters to preview the fall semester.

“In terms of looking ahead to the season, we’re going to have a great year. All our teams are ready. It’s been a great start to the season. So, we’re just really pumped for football starting up next week and just getting the fall going,” Horton said.

Faculty advisors and players encourage the Chattanooga community to get involved this season and support their hometown teams.

“There are a few ways you can support the student athletes. Obviously, wear your blue and gold. Give to the Mocs club, which is our scholarship fund for student athletes. Buy tickets and come to the games. Support the hometown team. That’s the best way when they look up into the stands and see everybody’s faces. That’s really important and to everybody really impactful,” Horton said.
