Mocs Welcome Size and ‘Twin Towers’ For Summer Workouts
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Summer workouts are underway for the Mocs basketball team.
With nine new players on the roster, the extra practice time is a bonus, as Chattanooga looks to improve on last year’s 21-12 record.
For Mocs coach Dan Earl…summer workouts must include a little summer fun.
Said Earl:”We’re going bowling tonight. Play Top Golf one day. Going out for team meals. A chance to bond and get to know everybody. Hopefully get everybody on the same page before school stars up in the fall.”
When you see the Mocs up close, they look like a college basketball team. They got some big boys.
Said Earl:”We have more size across the front line. Not necessarily seven-footers, but a bunch of guys between 6’6 and 6’8 and 6’9. We have some different guys that can post the ball a little bit, so we’re going to have to tweak things offensively to get the ball inside a little bit and play to our strengths.”
Perhaps the biggest player is 6’11 Collin Mullholland..
Said Earl:”He was one of two guys. Him and Sean Cusano who redshirted last year. Sean is about 6’9. Collin is 6’11. Collin did a tremendous job of getting into the gym and working on his body. He put on about 30 some odd pounds. Now it’s over a 6’11 frame.”
To go along with the size, the Mocs should have one of the best backcourts in the SoCon with Honor Huff and Trey Bonham. Bonham entered the portal after playing at UTC last season, but then he decided to come back.
Said Huff:”It was like when he was in the portal, we just felt there was this big void that we had to fill. Be hard to fill it obviously with one person. And him coming back. We’re like the ‘Twin Towers’ that are short.”
Reporter:”Honor called them the ‘Twin Towers’
the shorter version.”
Said Earl:”The shorter version. (chuckles) The very much shorter version.”
The ‘Twin Towers’ combined for an average of 33 points a game.
Said Huff:”We definitely feel like we are the best backcourt in the country no matter what team it is. we try to go at every team. It’s hard to put us in a box because Trey is so dynamic. You have to watch out for my shot.”
Said Earl:”They’re wonderful guys. I kid them a lot. They drive me nuts. We have been around each other for a long time. Certainly feel great about them being back. It’s a dynamic backcourt. They can score the ball, but they can move the ball. They know our expectations and what we’re looking for. They’ve won some basketball gams.”
