Mocs Win First FCS Playoff Game, Thump Sycamores 35-14

        Jacob Huesman racked up almost 400 of the Mocs 500 plus yards of total offense, while the UTC D held Indiana State’s air attack to just 178 yards passing, as Chattanooga won its first FCS playoff game in school history with a decisive 35-14 win over the Sycamores.
        Huesman threw for 241 yards and ran for 153 more, leading a UTC offense that held the ball for almost 41 minutes, while limiting ISU to just over 17 minutes of possessionin the contest. 
        It was the Mocs defense that picked up the first momentum swinging play of the afternoon, just three plays in. Sema’je Kendall picked off Mike Perish in Sycamore territory and returned the offering 27 yards to the ISU three yard line. On the Mocs first play from scrimmage, Keon Williams lowered his shoulder and found the end zone to quickly put UTC on top 7-0. Williams finished the afternoon with 70 yards on the ground.
        Chattanooga turned in another clock churning drive on their next possession, a 14-play 90 yard drive that ate up almost 7 minutes. All 90 yards came on the ground, witht he drive culminating in a one yard plunge from Huesman.
        75 of Indiana State’s 178 yard passing came on one play, when Perish hooked up with A.J. Johnson on touchdown strike near the end of the first quarter to cut the UTC lead to 14-7. Chattanooga answered with an strike of their own late in the second half. Huesman hit Tommy Hudson from 29 yards out to put the Mocs up 21-7 at the half.
        From there, UTC dominated the time of possession in the second half, holding the ball for over 23 minutes and smothering the Sycamore offense. Indiana State’s only other score of the contest came after another Huesman one yard run gave the Mocs a 28-7 lead. The Sycamores fumbled the ensuing kickoff, but the ball bounced into the waiting arms of Jordan Wallace, who carried it 65 yards for the score.
        It was as close as ISU would get. Derrick Craine topped the afternoon with a one yard score late in the fourth quarter to secure the Mocs 35-14 victory.
        The home town crowd filled Finley to the tune of over 84 hundred in attendance.
        Next up for the Mocs, a trip to New Hampshire to take on the top seeded Wildcats. Kickoff for that game is schedule for 1pm.
