Mocs Wrestler Brayden Palmer Falls in Southern Scuffle Finals to 3 Time All American

(gomocs.com)

CHATTANOOGA—Chattanooga Mocs sophomore Brayden Palmer’s run at 133 came to an end in the Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear. He lost in the Championship tilt to Oklahoma State 3-time All-American and NCAA Finalist Daton Fix.

Fix claimed a 7-3 decision. Palmer battled but couldn’t get the reverse or takedown he needed to pressure Fix in the third period. He takes confidence in his performance despite the loss.

“(Daton) is a really tough opponent,” Palmer shared. “I felt there were a couple of positions I could have been better in that could’ve put me in a spot where I could win. It just lets me know that I’m not that far off.”

That was evident in the afternoon semis. He pinned No. 21 Aaron Negao in 2:36. After giving up an early takedown, Palmer got the reverse and then worked his way into the perfect position.

“I got the reversal and then the cradle pretty quickly,” he continued. “That’s probably my top move. I locked it up and knew that was it. I was pretty happy to get off the mat there because I’ve been sick all week.”

It’s just the second time the Mocs had a finalist with the first also coming at 133. Nick Soto made his way to the 2012 final losing a 7-2 decision to Cristop Dardanes of Minnesota. For Palmer, he ended an 11-match win streak putting his Scuffle ledger at 11-2.

“i had a lot of fun,” Palmer concluded. “It was a great atmosphere being in front of the home crowd. Would’ve loved to win it, but came up against a tough opponent, but I had fun.

Logan Andrew just missed on reaching the medal stand. He lost a 2-0 decision to Stanford’s Peter Ming by virtue of a second period escape for Ming and then more than 1:00 of riding time for the Cardinal.
