Mom To Mom: Halloween Safety

Halloween is finally here and here are some ways to keep your kids safe on trick or treat night. On Halloween night I know excitement levels for your kiddos are on an all-time high. Few tips and a few reminders to stay safe at night. Start a couple days before and make sure your costumes are ready, and you’ve got everything that you need. Check the kid’s mask and make sure that they can see clearly, and that nothing’s hindering their vision. Make sure you have reflective tape on the kids that are wearing those dark costumes, that way they are in clear vision for the cars to see them. You want to make sure your flashlights have batteries, and you have your glow sticks purchased. If your child does have an ID card, you want to make sure that you grab that and put it in your pocket, as well.

So you’ve got the older kids that will be going off on their own, you want to set the rules and give them a few reminders, such as only go to homes with porch lights on. Never enter a home. Even if you know the person, don’t enter a home. You want to make sure the kids know the route, where you’re going to be going, and if they do get lost, where to meet you back up. And then also, make sure they know to stay on the sidewalk, and if they do have to cross the street, make sure they know to always check for oncoming cars.

A little tip that I have done that seems to work for me, is I always take a little bag of candy from my own home. That way, the kids get the munchies, they want to snack on some candy, you’ve got something safe to give them, especially knew your child has peanut allergies, like my son does. If you moms out there have any tips that you’d like to share with our Mom to Mom viewers, go to the Mom to Mom Facebook page and put those in the comments. See you all next week.
