Mom to Mom- Calm Down Corner

Are your kids feeling overwhelmed at home with big emotions? Today on Mom to Mom, we’ve got the perfect trick to help out with that. Today, we are creating a calm down space. Now I got this idea from my sister-in-law, who is a teacher. They actually have these at school, but it’s really good to have them in your homes as well. And it works best when your little ones are having those big emotions, when you start to see them get a little upset and frustrated, and it could be over the smallest things. Once you see that happening, you can take them to their calm corner and work through the emotions. So let me show you what I’ve created for our calm down space. And let me tell you, this takes time to work with your kids. It’s not just going to happen overnight.

So some of the things that you might want to put in your calming bin could be a sensory item, something that would just help them get those emotions out. These beads to keep them busy. I like posters. Posters are a really good thing. You can have them hanging at a certain spot in your house, so you can teach them about the emotions that they’re feeling. And I got these actually on Amazon. You can find them at any craft store, really. Another thing you want to work with are books about feelings and emotions. So you can actually read the book with the child to help them work through those unhappy, angry feelings that they might be going through. You want to find a nice calming area in your house. And once you’ve established this with your little one, it becomes easier and easier for you to just leave them alone to do their own little thing with their calming corner.

If you have any wonderful ideas, we’d love to hear about it. You can always message us on our Facebook page. And we’ll see you on the next Mom to Mom.
