Monroe County deputy injured in shooting, TBI investigating
MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Monroe County deputy was injured during a shooting over the weekend.
Deputes with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to a tree down call at 2300 Reed Springs Road, December 29, 2024 at 11:54 a.m.
It was discovered that the tree was down in front of the residence of a wanted suspect, Richard Brown.
According to MCSO, Brown was wanted on an active felony warrant out of Loudoun County.
Upon arrival, deputies observed Brown leaving the residence, and asked to speak with him.
Brown refused and re-entered the residence.
Deputies attempted to speak to Brown through a door when Brown began making violent statements.
A perimeter was established and MCSO requested backup units as well as SWAT.
Authorities announced themselves and asked Brown to leave the residence.
Law enforcement deployed non-lethal gas into the residence and breached the door.
Upon entry, deputies were met with an eruption of gunfire, resulting in a deputy getting shot.
The deputy was transported to UT hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
After a lengthy standoff, Brown was later brought into custody.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) is investigating this incident.
