Moratorium on new subdivisions to end as Plan Hamilton remains in limbo
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The ill fated Plan Hamilton came back up in discussion Wednesday morning.
It was tabled at a County Commission meeting back in June after 8 commissioners said they weren’t ready to vote on it.
The plan is designed to guide future growth in unincorporated Hamilton County.
In tandem with that tabling, a moratorium was placed on new subdivisions in the county that had been approved for 30 days.
However, that moratorium will be lifted.
Hamilton County Attorney Janie Varnell explained, “In my research, the cases where moratoriums have been approved and withstood legal challenges, it’s been because they’ve been short. The best thing we did was originally was have the one at 30 days and I don’t think we should extend it any longer than that.”
The Regional Planning Agency will rehear this plan at their September meeting.
