More Details on the Five Teens Arrested for Attempted Drive-by

Five teenagers, two guns and reports of shots fired.

Chattanooga police are crediting community involvement, fast thinking officers and man’s best friend for preventing what could have been a deadly shooting Friday.

"This particular incident resulted in the arrest of some very violent and dangerous suspects who were endangering our community members," said Lieutenant eddy Chamberlin with the Chattanooga Police Department.

Shots fired were reported at the 3100 block of 5th Avenue.

Witnesses quickly called 911 and described the car.

Shortly after, officers of Fox Team of the CPD along with K-9 Officer Duco located the car.

"In this case we were able to locate them incredibly swiftly and detain them and recover the weapons that were involved in this particular incident," Chamberlin said. "Luckily no one was injured."

Officers explained how instrumental K-9 Officer Duco was in the successful apprehension without incident of these suspects, especially when police knew they were coming upon armed individuals.

"Anytime you have a canine involved, it lessens the chance of us having to use force just through command presence," Chamberlin said.

All five teenagers were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon even though only two guns were confiscated.

Officers can confirm two of the suspects are known gang members.

"There were two pistols, one of which appeared to be fired recently. It was still warm. And they were fully loaded."

Officers said they have taken over 500 illegally owned guns off the streets of Chattanooga this year.
