More To The Story: New Pottery center

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Be as one!! Get centered. After all, clay is from the Earth. That’s what we’re talking about here. Bottom line, you’re getting your hands dirty!!!

Scenic City Clay Arts has a second downtown location now. This one on 13th Street……just down the road a bit from the first one on 11th Street.

SCCA has been around since 2016. Classes are weekly. And you make stuff. If you’re looking for something with a healing benefit, this could be your ticket.

Manager Emily Lloyd says “It’s a community for people. A creative community. And a creative outlet, especially during this pandemic. With everything going on right now, people need a place to relieve stress and anxiety. For many people, it’s also on their bucket list.”

Working with clay for the first time can be a little intimidating. But those in the know say once you get the hang of it, it turns out to be easy. And they say it stimulates your creative juices.

NICOLE NICHLOS, SCCA EDUCATION MANAGER;
“A key part of clay is centering the clay. I like to think that you, as yourself, are getting centered. As you center the clay.”

Nicole Nichlos says the hardest part of clay work is, indeed, centering the clay.

But SCCA now has two locations, where those interested can give it a crack!!!

“We see families doing it together. It’s good bonding. I think it’s a great outlet in a world where we’re success driven.”

SCCA had to close its studio during much of the pandemic. But it’s full steam ahead. The wheel is back spinning! Dave Staley, News 12 Now
