More To The Story: Prayer Walk

Dave Staley learns about a different kind of prayer walk... this one is about ideas

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Jon Rector has done rescue mission work for some 21 years. He’s the executive director of Chattanooga Outreach. You probably know it as the Union Gospel Mission. It’s a faith based organization that helps the homeless. And those with life controlling issues. Money comes mainly from individual donors.

Next month, the mission will hold it’s first ever “Prayer Walk.” But the mission is not asking for money. It’s asking for input.

“We’re inviting people to come in and take about a five minute walk. Just pray with us. What would you have us do? Or how would you have us do it? We need direction and resources. Our goal continues to impact as many lives as possible. It’s about making a difference in their lives.”

Rector says the mission has never done anything like this before. And now that the organization has just purchased an adjacent piece of property right next to its location on Signal Hills Drive here in Chattanooga, ideas are welcome. With more rooms, sleeping quarters and living space coming in the near future, it’s a big venture. Pretty much doubling the current capacity.

“That’s more lives we’ll have an impact on. More people off the streets. We’ve had people from long distances away to be a part of our program here. Our goal is to make an impact.

The prayer walk will take place March 18th and 25th. The last two Fridays of the month.
