More to the Story with Staley: Airport Art Exhibit

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — One of the most successful art exhibits in our area happens to be at the Chattanooga Airport. And even the one who came up with the idea is pleasantly surprised by its success.

The rotating art exhibits at the Chattanooga Airport have turned out to work quite well. That’s according to the exhibit curator, Carrie Pendergrass.

Her latest exhibit, which went on display about a month ago, is entitled “Emergence.” It has 18 paintings, by 14 local and regional artists. Pendergrass says it’s always tough to choose who “makes the cut.”

“Sometimes it’s a really tough choice. Sometimes things don’t work as well with other pieces,” Pendergrass said. “It’s not that it’s not good work. It just doesn’t work with everything else. Or it’s not close enough to the theme.”

Emergence is defined as the process of coming into view. Pendergrass says this exhibit is open to interpretation.

It was her idea. All of the exhibit themes are. But she says she never makes a snap judgment.

“I really like to think about it. And the ways I would interpret it,” Pendergrass continued. “And I’m always surprised and interested in the ways other people interpret things.”

These works of art can be purchased. A wide range of prices. She says so far, every exhibit has had buyers, from all types of folks.

“I’ve had really positive feedback. People enjoy seeing it. And especially now, since travel is picking up so much,” said Pendergrass. “It’s the travel season now. Sometimes people tell me it’s really awesome stuff. So it’s been really cool.”
