More to the Story with Staley: Alpaca Farm Days

TRION, Ga. (WDEF) — For animal lovers willing to take a short ride to Trion, Georgia this weekend, “Alpaca Farm Days” is waiting for you. “Wonkey The Donkey, Axel Rose and Itty-Bitty” would love to see you.

It’s a sanctuary, owned and operated by Maryann Marsh and her husband Marty. That’s “Cowboy” to most who know him. And they’re getting ready for another “Alpaca Farm Days.”

For $5 on Saturday and Sunday, guests can stop by and enjoy hanging out with a slew of “furry friends.”

Wonkey the Donkey is here. So is Axel Rose, and Itty-Bitty, the little wheel-chair goat, who’s already gone through three sets of wheels in her short wonderous life.

But alpacas are the stars of the show!

“The goal is education. Education about farming, as well as taking care of animals. And education about sanctuary animals. It’s not just about feeding the animals. It’s much more than that,” said farm owner Maryann Marsh.

Maryann and Marty used to breed alpacas. Not anymore. Now, it’s all about taking care of the sanctuary family.

In case you’re counting, over 38 alpacas, 9 llamas, 15 goats and 7 sheep. Plus, a chicken or two.

Alpaca Farm Days is also about helping the local community.

“Our local church has a food pantry. We try and keep it stocked all year long. So, if you bring a non-perishable item to the farm, you’ll receive a ten percent discount off our country store. We try and help out as much as we can,” Marsh explained.

Yes, there is a country store here. Filled with all kinds of alpaca yarns, sweaters and scarves.

There will also be local farmers and vendors on hand, selling their jams and jellies and treats.

And by the way, while interviewing Maryann, Itty-Bitty chewed on News 12’s Dave Staley’s shirt and tripod. She is worth the price of admission.

Again, Alpaca Farm Days is Saturday and Sunday. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s at TMMA Farms. Check out their web page and social media for more information.
