More to the Story with Staley: Batman
GOTHAM CITY (WDEF) — This past Saturday was the third Saturday in September. That means we celebrated “Batman Day.” We’ve done so every year, dating back to 2014.
Batman remains as popular a super-hero now as ever before. And a new gaming experience brings “Gotham City” to a whole different level.
He was created in a comic book back in 1939. Adam West really made him famous in the 1960s TV series. You know you’re popular when you’re celebrated annually with your own day and grace the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It’s Batman: the Caped Crusader.
He’s as relevant now as ever before, if for no other reason than because of all the movies, 21 in all.
Batman is still the world’s top-ranked super-hero. Why you ask?
“He chooses to fight crime. And he’s a billionaire. And he’s good looking. And he has technology. He has all the cool gadgets. But he’s human. And we can really relate to that,” said CEO of Infinite Rabbit Holes, Susan Bonds.
“Also, there’s such an incredible cast of characters. They are great super villains: the Riddler, the Joker, Mr. Freeze. It’s just an incredible cast,” said Chief Creative Officer Alex Lieu.
And now, the Batman Universe comes to life with a cutting-edge reality game: “Panic in Gotham City.”
It has already won gaming industry awards. It’s state-of-the-art, and family friendly.
“You get this box which is full of stuff! You build Gotham City right on your own table. But then, you can enhance things,” Lieu said. “All kinds of things popping up in 3D. It tells a story in a completely different way.”
Those in the know say it’s a different kind of game, pushing the boundaries of reality. In a sense, it is reinventing the world of gameplay.
“We’re grounded in the world. When you play the game, you can see everybody in the room. And then, you will have this magical digital content on top of it!” Bonds added.
So, you might want to check it out. After all, Batman has been fighting the good fight for 84 years, with no end in sight.
By the way, a little Dave Staley trivia here: do you know how far it is from “The Batcave to Gotham City?”
14 miles.
