More to the Story with Staley: Cocaine Bear Bobblehead
FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Bobbleheads have really grown in popularity over the past 25 years or so. Seems like everybody has one or two. Now, there’s a new bobblehead coming out on the market.
And it honors one of our own!
Those little 8-by-5-inch ornaments, at your home, on your work desk. They’re everywhere these days: bobbleheads.
Here in our newsroom, they’re plentiful. Andrew Harrison loves bobbleheads. Ron Burgundy is front and center.
Emily Cassulo is in on the fun. Princess likes Star Wars.
But nobody beats the passion and commitment to bobbleheads like Phil Sklar.
Sklar is the Co-Founder and CEO of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee.
“To this day, they are the number one promoted item that gets fans into stadiums,” Sklar explained. “Fans see the bobblehead. They can display them, or they can even sell it.”
Sklar started this Hall of Fame and Museum back in 2014. At the time, he and his partner had some 3,000 bobbleheads.
Now, they have over 10,500. And they produce bobbleheads as well.
Coming in July, it’s the Cocaine Bear bobblehead. It’s honoring the bear in Fannin County, Georgia, back in 1985, that overdosed on a batch of cocaine found in the mountains.
A movie was made about the bear. The bear is actually on display in Lexington, Kentucky.
And now…
“They have fun with the Cocaine Bear. They’d never done a bobblehead before,” Sklar said. “It’ll be fun for all of the people in your area. It’s something unique. You can just… bobble the head.”
Why the Cocaine Bear? Sklar says, “why not?” He produces bobbleheads of everything. King Charles. Important figures like Martin Luther King, Jr.
Plus, just about every sports figure one can imagine. All in the name of fun!
“The thing that’s kept bobbleheads relevant is the fun aspect. You can always keep them on display somewhere. Just fun!” Sklar stated.
Once again, the Cocaine Bear will be debuting next month. It’s one of a kind. Joining a large crowd of other famous people!
