Mother charged with murdering her twin sons in Murphy, NC

MURPHY, North Carolina (WDEF) – North Carolina authorities are still trying to piece together when a pair of twin boys were killed in the Murphy area.

The father of the four-year-olds showed up at their mother’s home on Saturday morning for his custodial visit.

But he found the boys dead inside.

Investigators hospitalized the mother and identified her as Genevieve Ellen Springer. They then charged her with two counts of First-Degree Murder.

She was released from the hospital in Union County, Georgia and then arrested and sent back to Murphy.

The father says he last saw the twins alive last Monday.

So, investigators hope an autopsy will determine just when they died.

In a release, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office posted, “In the wake of this tragedy Sheriff Dustin D. Smith is asking for prayers for the victims’ family, friends and all the first responders involved. Sheriff Smith would like to remind our County that our children are our most precious resource and our hope for the future. We all must stand united for their protection and for justice.”
