Mother Dies In McMinn County Fire, 3 Children and a Man Escape,

MCMINN COUNTY, TN, (WDEF)-Crews spent 15 minutes trying to gain access to a bedroom in the back of this house off  County Road 561 in McMinn County.

Billy Roach, Englewood Fire Chief, "Two crews done an interior attack trying to gain access to her, the fire was knocked down in ten to fifteen minutes and her body was located in the rear of the house."

Englewood Fire Department were assisted by the State Fire Marshal’s office and McMinn County Sheriff crews.

It was the second major fire that Englewood Fire teams tackled Wednesday morning.

"A lot of this crew that are here are young fire fighters they are 18 or 19 years old, for some of them it’s the first fire they dealing with a fatality."

The Red Cross arrived just after 7am to help the three children and the man who escaped.

Johnny Hooker, American Red Cross,"The family of course escaped in their under clothing without any shoes and things of that nature, so we gave them a client assistance card loaded with money so they could buy some food and clothing and shoes."

The survivors were given shelter by family and friends while the Englewood community helped to put the two story home back in order.

State fire marshal arson agents combed the house and surrounding back yard along with forensic teams but the cause of the fire is still unknown.
