Motorcyclist arrested after pursuit on US Highway 27

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A motorcyclist was arrested after leading Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies on a pursuit up US Highway 27.

HCSO reported at 4:40 p.m. September 23, 2024, a deputy noticed a dark blue motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of US 27.

The deputy observed the motorcyclist was displaying an unreadable license plate and swerving between lanes.

HCSO deputy attempted a traffic stop, however the motorcyclist refused to pull over, and a pursuit ensued.

At one point during the pursuit, HCSO reported the motorcyclist attempted to avoid deputies by riding in a “long stretch of grassy hills before returning to Highway 27”.

Near the US 27 & US 111 split, the motorcyclist tried the same tactic, this time on a grassy embankment.

He ended up hitting a culvert, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.

The bike came to a halt, and deputies were able to close in.

He failed to comply with orders given.

Deputies had to use a taser to gain compliance from the motorcyclist, and eventually take him into custody.

HCSO was able to identify the rider as Jonathan Harris.

It was later discovered the bike wasn’t registered to Harris, and Harris was operating the vehicle on a revoked driver’s license.

Harris also had an outstanding warrant from the East Ridge Police Department.

Deputies found 5.96 grams of marijuana and 1.08 grams of methamphetamine in Harris’s possession.

Harris is being charged with the following:

  • Felony Evading
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Simple Possession of Marijuana
  • Driving While on a Revoked License
  • Numerous Traffic-Related Offenses
