Motorists to stay off of the road due to winter weather
TDOT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is asking drivers to stay off the road if at all possible.
TDOT crews are going on their third day of clearing roads.
Due to the prolonged winter blast, coupled with dangerously low temperatures, conditions will remain hazardous for at least the next 24 hours.
Across Tennessee, TDOT has responded to hundreds of incidents, many of them involving more than one vehicle.
Crews are working around the clock and are focused on keeping primary routes, mainly interstates clear.
They will target areas vulnerable to freezing, such as hills, curves, ramps, bridges, and interchanges.
The department asks the public to please stay home if you don’t need to travel.
TDOT said, “We want you, and our crews, to remain safe.”
You can get the latest road conditions on your desktop or mobile device through SmartWay.
Travelers can also dial 511 for travel information.
TDOT will also be issuing updates on their socials for statewide travel.
