Mountain Cove Farms Resort hosts first live performance
Mountain Cove Farms Resort in Walker County is hosting its first ever live musical performance Thursday night.
Grammy award winning recording artist and gospel singer, Guy Penrod, will be the performer to a sell out crowd. Larry Brooks, Walker County Economic Director said, "This is the first time we have ever tried to do an event like this in that we have a performer coming in." Mountain Coves Farms Resort utilizes the barn for weddings and held the first Walker county fair in decades this past September. Brooks said, "People really enjoyed it, so we began thinking about what it really was that maybe we could do to kind of capitalize on that success." Brooks and Commissioner Bebe Heiskell kicked around the idea of having a Christmas concert. and the idea snow balled from there. Brooks said, "We’ve got people that have actually driven in from Virginia to be part of this and so we are really excited that not only can this be a benefit by the citizens of Walker county, but also the folks in surrounding areas and also the surrounding states."

Guy Penrod, who was with the Gather vocal band for 14 years, says he’s excited to be in Walker county and will perform songs from 3 to 4 different records to a sell out crowd of 4-hundred. Penrod said, "I’ll have a mixture of old hymns. I love the hymns. And some worship material that is off the worship record we released this year. And then Christmas music as well." Walker county representatives say if everything continues to go well, they may try to bring in more talent. Brooks said, "We’ve had people that have asked us to consider maybe doing an Easter concert and maybe doing some other things during the summer."
