Multi-agency pursuit ends in crash and arrest in Hamilton County

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended Thursday morning with a crash and foot pursuit just before the I-75 and Highway 153 interchange.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department initiated the pursuit around 9:00 a.m. on May 1, 2025, involving a black Dodge Durango.

As the chase crossed into Hamilton County, Hamilton County deputies joined the effort to assist.

The suspect, later identified as Cornell D. Wilson, allegedly struck several vehicles during the pursuit, including sideswiping a Hamilton County patrol car, which sustained minor damage.

The chase ended when Wilson’s vehicle collided with a FedEx truck and crashed into the median barrier, making it inoperable.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Wilson then attempted to flee on foot.

During the chase, he reportedly punched a deputy in the head after the deputy tried to use a taser.

Officers quickly subdued him and took him into custody.

Wilson was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

He now faces multiple charges from the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

HCSO is charging Wilson with the following:

–  Aggravated Vehicular Assault

–  Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer

–  Resisting Arrest
