Multiple People Shot Downtown Chattanooga Saturday Night

UPDATE (WDEF)- Saturday Night around 10:48 pm (Eastern time) Chattanooga Police Officers were patrolling the area of 100 Cherry Street when they heard gunshots.

CPD Officers observed multiple parties exchanging gunfire and numerous people fleeing the area. The Officers began rendering aid to the victims as well as assisting others to safety.

They were able to detain at least one person of interest in the incident in the moments after the shooting began.

There were several gunshot victims that were transported to the hospital. There are six total victims. Four have what are considered non life threatening injuries. Two have what are considered life threatening.

CPD does not believe all of the victims were an intended target and are also confident that there is not an ongoing public safety threat at this time.

Ages or a status on the victims are not available at this time. However most of them will be teenagers to early 20’s.

There was a  large groups of juveniles walking around the downtown area at the time of the shooting and CPD believe it’s from within that group that the shooting took place.
