Murphy man arrested for child sexual assault

Murphy, NC (WDEF) – Cherokee County deputies starting investigating a report on Monday of a child sexual assault.

40-year-old Timothy Russell Rung was identified as the suspect and arrested on Tuesday.

He’s charged with one count of First Degree Sex Offense with a Child and 3 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. 

His bond was set at $300,000, but he’s currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center.

He’s due in court on December 12th.
