In custody: 18-year-old attempted murder suspect turns himself in

UPDATE (6/22/26): According to the Athens Police Department, Raeshaun Hurst turned himself in to the McMinn County Justice Center.


ATHENS — The City of Athens TN Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 18-year-old Cornelius Raeshaun Hurst in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at McMinn Village Apartments on Westside Street.

They say officers responded to the scene after reports of gunfire and determined that a bystander was struck by a projectile and transported to a local hospital.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time.

Hurst has been charged with:

• Attempted First-Degree Murder
• Multiple Counts of Reckless Endangerment

He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

They ask individuals to not approach Hurst if seen.
