Naming contest for baby porcupine at Chattanooga Zoo ending soon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Zoo’s new porcupine exhibit is welcoming a baby African Cape Porcupine. TVFCU is sponsoring this exhibit, and has named the semifinalists in the porcupine naming contest.

The public previously had the chance to submit name ideas for the baby porcupine.

Now, TVFCU has narrowed it down to four options:

  • Nickel Prickles, submitted first by Amanda Anderson.
  • Piper Prickles, submitted first by Cristy Gibson.
  • Dill Prickles, submitted first by Katherine Peterson.
  • Quillizabeth Prickles, submitted first by Matt Rivera.

The public can vote for their favorite name on TVFCU’s social media pages, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

But voting is only open for 24 hours.

TVFCU will announce the winning name for the baby porcupine next week through social media.

The winner of the naming contest will also receive a year-long membership to the Chattanooga Zoo and tickets to the groundbreaking event for the Cape of Africa expansion this year.

TVFCU said over 1,000 people submitted name ideas. They chose the top four through an internal naming process.

The baby porcupine is the daughter of Tommy and Pookie Prickles. She is also the younger sister of Penny Prickles.

Learn more about the contest on TVFCU’s website, and find out more about the zoo at chattzoo.org.
