NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) will not expand to Tennessee, at least not now.

The WNBA announced today that they will add teams in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia.

Nashville had hoped to snag one of those slots.

Former Governor Bill Haslam lead the Tennessee bid that included Candace Parker, Peyton Manning, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

They planned to name the team the Nashville Summitt, in honor of U-T legend Pat Summitt.

Haslam has said that if they failed to land one of the current expansion slots, they’ll keep trying.
