NB Hwy 27 closed after crash at 21st Street overpass

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A serious crash on Highway 27 has forced authorities to close the Northbound lanes.

The crash occurred sometime after 9 AM at the 21st street overpass.

It’s unclear how many vehicles were involved or what led to the accident. 

One person who was inside a mangled vehicle that was upside down had be extricated.

The impact of the crash was so hard that concrete guard rails on the overpass fell onto 21st street. Luckily, those concrete slabs didn’t fall onto any motorist who were traveling under the overpass.

Police forced many motorist to make U-turns on Northbound Highway 27. Traffic that was coming off of the I-24 off-ramp onto Northbound Highway 27 was redirected South with the traffic that was forced to make U-turns.

So far, there is no word on the condition of the driver who was rescued by fire crews.
