Neighbors Stand Up For Traffic Camera on Germantown Rd.

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – A traffic light and a speed camera located at Germantown Road could become a thing of the past in Hamilton county…but some people are not happy about it.
WDEF News 12’s Jamal Williams has the story.

Tennessee Freedom from Traffic Cameras Act was passed by the senate to remove the camera after numerous complaints had been filed,

but some local residents aren’t pleased with the idea of losing the camera.

"it keeps our neighborhood considerably safer"

The camera has been there less than a year, but residents think it has made a difference. Cars can visibly be seen slowing down for the camera and in its first few months, it put a major dent in drivers’ pockets.

"in 3 months there were 18,000 tickets given out by that camera outside that has got to show you there is a reason why that camera is there"

Mr. Profetta said that before the camera was installed, drivers were flying down the street and didn’t even follow the basic rules of the road.

"We would have motorcycles going up and down that street at 60 miles an hour waking everybody up people using the center lane for passing that has pretty much stopped"

Speeding down a residential road is always a cause for concern, especially when there are kids that catch the bus near by.

"There is kids that catch the bus right down the street here if during the time that people are driving slower because of the camera what happens if one of those kids gets hit in the middle of the morning"
