New Chapter in Baylor-McCallie Rivalry With State Title Up For Grabs

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) McCallie and Baylor have been playing for over 100 years, but they’ve never played for a state title.
That changes Thursday as the two rivals meet in Chattanooga for the Division two, triple-A state championship.

Said McCallie head coach Ralph Potter:”It’s just a great story line because it never has happened. There has been a lot of interesting things that have happened in the Baylor-McCallie game, but it has never been for the stakes that are this high. I do think there’s a lot more interest in it from outside of our schools. It’s going to be exciting to see how big a crowd there is. We probably won’t be able to call the defense from the sidelines if that happens.” (chuckles)

McCallie won the regular season match-up in a classic showdown 34-31.

Rematch for the state crown goes down at 7pm Thursday at Finley Stadium.
