DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — A new Dalton firefighter received a commendation for his heroism for providing life-saving measures last month.

Dalton Firefighter Charlie Davis received the commendation on Tuesday, August 22. That morning, the Public Safety Commission meeting honored his actions.

On July 15, Davis was off duty and traveling across East Nickajack Road in Catoosa County. He saw some people on the side of the road who were performing CPR on a patient. Davis immediately stopped to assist.

The fire department said Davis took control of the situation and performed CPR on the victim until EMS arrived. He directed a bystander to call 911. Davis also prepared the victim to receive advanced medical care.

Catoosa County firefighters arrived, but Davis continued to assist by performing chest compressions.

The Dalton Fire Department said an ambulance then took the patient to the hospital. The patient was also alive, alert and speaking by the time they arrived.

Firefighter Davis then took the patient’s wife back home and ensured she was okay.

The fire department says Charlie Davis is only a first-year firefighter, who just graduated from the Dalton Fire Department’s Recruit School in April.
