New details about murder investigation at a Chattanooga motel

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – New details have emerged about a woman who was found strangled to death in a local motel.

Jeanette Scholten, 34, was found dead inside a Chatt Inn Motel room she was renting.

According to Chattanooga Police Lt. Glenn Scruggs, motel managers became concerned after not seeing her come out her room for for several days.

“So when they came and knocked on her door and she didn’t respond to the door, maintenance let them in and discovered her remains,” Scruggs said.

Jeanette Lynn ScholtenScholten’s body was located next to the bed. She was initially listed as a DOA until a medical examiner determined she died from strangulation.

According to detectives, nothing appeared to be stolen and the room didn’t appear to be ransacked. Detectives also said it didn’t look like a struggle took place. Much worse, no one heard anything that would have prompt a call for help.

“There were no 911 calls. There was no suspicious activity calls; nothing up until her remains were discovered,” Scruggs said.

Thanks to forensics, investigators did find several things inside the room that may be of importance.

“We lifted fingerprints. We lifted other forensic samples and all that’s being investigated and nailed down right now,” Scruggs said.

Although police have not publicly named a suspect in the case, they have confirmed that multiple BOLO’s have been issued.

“We’re looking for friends; her best friend; guys she’s dated in the past. We have a lot of folks and we’re looking for a lot of different people,” Scruggs said.
