New General Sessions Judge appointed by Hamilton County Commission
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton County has a new General Sessions Judge.
Victoria Smith has been selected to this position.
A General Sessions judge handles the initial criminal proceedings of a case,
She is replacing Judge Alex McVeagh, who recently won the election for the vacant Circuit Court position in Hamilton County.
Judge Smith has worked in the Hamilton County Assistant Public Defender’s Office since 20-18 and says her experience she says will help her on the bench.
“I have represented so many individuals in this county that have been in some very tough situations. I think it’s probably sometimes easier to see only one side of things, I’ve seen the other side. I hope I can look at them with grace and compassion and sure, I believe there has to be some consequences, but when you look at stuff from that perspective that everyone has a mother, everyone was created, it really changes the way that you think,” said Judge Smith.
She will be sworn in next Tuesday as Judge McVeagh will be sworn into his Circuit Court seat Thursday.
