New Las Vegas Raider McClendon Curtis Returns to Central to Host Kids Clinic
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Former Central Purple Pounder lineman McClendon Curtis was back at his high school stomping grounds over the weekend.
He returned as a new member of the Las Vegas Raiders, after signing an NFL free agent contract last spring.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong tagged along with ‘Big Curts’ as he hosted a kids clinic.
Central High and Chattanooga mock alumni McLendon Curtis signed as a free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders and is officially part of the NFL.
Said Curtis: “You know, the raider organization has given me a great opportunity. I just work hard and, you know, be in my playbook when I can and honestly work out every day. It’s it’s a busy time, and we’re about to get back while I head back to Vegas soon here in a few days.”
Curtis says it didn’t take long for it to sink in, that his dream became a reality.
Said Curtis: “Your first moment when you see guys, you play Madden with, then you’re like, oh, we’re right here. But it’s here. It’s here. Take the opportunity of it. Work hard.Get yourself every opportunity to be successful.
He decided to sign with the raiders because of his connection with the assistant offensive line coach.
Said Curtis: During the zoom calls and all that. After the draft, he broke down their playbook really well to me, made sure I learned it. He wasn’t, like, irritated with me at all when I may not have got the answer right, but he was a great guy.
And then the head offensive line coach took it from there.
Said Curtis: “The head online coach, when it came to free agency time, he was like, hey, he got on the phone, and that’s not rare. Usually you’re talking to somebody in the upper-up, but shoot for the coaches, both of you, on the phone to talk to you. That was a big deal for me.”
