New Lemur Exhibit at Tennessee Aquarium
After three years of careful planning, the new Lemur exhibit at the Tennessee Aquarium will finally open.
Lemurs are only found on the island of Madagascar and there are over one-hundred different species.
Two groups of Ringtails and one of Red Ruffs will be joining the exhibit.
Curator of Forests Dave Collins says the high ceilings and location are ideal for a Lemur display inside the museum.
“Primarily to agriculture. They use a slash and burn, where they cut the forest and burn it to create immediate use for crops and cattle. The Madagascar’s are so charismatic, they’re being traded in the international pet trade and lastly they’re even being killed for meat.”>
There are currently no plans to start a breeding program, yet.
The exhibit will open March 1st and is included with general admission.
Hours are 10AM-7PM daily.
