New skate ramp opened in memory of house fire victim

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- It’s been almost seven years since 20-year-old Gavin Gardener, of Dunlap, Tennessee, tragically passed in a house fire.
The young man’s dream was to build a skatepark and/or ramp in his hometown.
On Saturday, community members, friends and family made sure his dream would become a reality at local Harris Park.
Gardener’s sister and mother cut the ribbon at the newly built, “Half Pipe Skate Feature,” alongside city and park officials to unveil the new ramp.
The young man’s skateboard was the first to test out the new ramp, and his dad was the first to skate on it.
The heart-warming event featured local music and activities for the public.
The hashtag, #BEMOREGAVIN, was created by Gavin’s loved ones, reminding others to “be true to themselves and love others without judgement.”
