New Store Sparks Economic Growth

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) – A major retailer is breathing new life into the Northgate Mall area in Hixson, bringing with it a big boost to the local economy.

The former Sears building has already been demolished, clearing the way for a new BJ’s Wholesale Club.

The 99,000 square foot store is expected to create more than one hundred jobs, offering economic growth in the area.

Kirk Saville, BJ’s Spokesperson, told News 12 that “Our member save up to 40% off grocery store prices every day and we look for communities with a lot of hard-working families where value and savings is important and we think this is a great fit and also based on the response from the community already we know this is gonna be a great fit for us.”

This will be BJ’s sixth location in Tennessee, following openings in Goodlettsville, La Vergne, Mt. Juliet, Maryville, and Johnson City.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the project is expected to be completed later this year.
