New trial request for Janet Hinds

She was convicted of vehicular homicide in the death of police officer Nicholas Galinger

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A hearing has been set for Friday morning in Judge Don Poole’s court for Janet Hinds.

Hinds has requested a new trial, based on what she believes to be errors in her original trial.

The motion cited nine specific instances of possible errors, including allowing a photo of Chattanooga police officer Nicholas Galinger in the jury room while deliberations were under way, as well as allowing videos of the scene into evidence that were made two and a half years after the incident.

Hinds was convicted in a September 20-21 trial in the hit and run death of Officer Galinger.

Hinds was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
