New Vols Coach Donnie Tyndall Says He Has “Coachable Team”
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee coach Donnie Tyndall’s analysis of his team reflects his straight-shooting approach.
Tyndall reconstructed a roster decimated by transfers and graduations after replacing Cuonzo Martin, who left for California. The Volunteers return only four scholarship players from a team that went 24-13 and reached an NCAA regional semifinal last season.
Although Tyndall says he likes his team because it’s "very, very coachable," he adds that "I don’t like that we’re the least experienced team in the league. I don’t like that we don’t have a point guard in our program and I don’t like that we’re going to play three true freshmen on our front line."
The coaching change has the Vols switching from Martin’s man-to-man defense to Tyndall’s matchup zone. It also means adapting to Tyndall’s straight-shooting approach.
