New workforce resource looks to connect Chattanoogans with jobs
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Gone are the days of walking into a prospective employer with a resume in hand.
Now, virtually all job postings are online, with some downsides.
A new resource looks to make new jobs more attainable in the city of Chattanooga.
One Chattanooga Works is a new platform designed to connect job seekers directly with Chattanooga based employers.
The city’s workforce development director, Andrew Hudson, said, “Effective workforce development has to start with employers. That’s the job, that’s the goal and we wanna make sure that we start from there. So we want to engage employers to demystify how they list their jobs and demystify how they engage in building trainings for their jobs.”
Hudson says that this platform is designed to address some of the common pitfalls job seekers are seeing on job application site to Indeed in LinkedIn such as ghost jobs, where job postings are not leading to an actual hiring.
He said, “So we created this website because Indeed, and other applicant tracking software programs are not just a hassle for job seekers, but they’re also a hassle for the employers that we’re hoping will succeed here in our local economy. Lots of people are getting led to jobs that maybe aren’t active if they’re a job seeker and then employers are getting lots of applications from folks that may or may not be looking for that job… extremely frustrating if I’m looking for a job for me to have to go to Indeed or Glassdoor or LinkedIn.”
Hudson says that job seekers will not have to be concerned about their applications being blocked by an AI screener as well, which often prevent applicants from having their resumes seen by an actual person.
He said, “The only job seekers will only be the ones that put their information in. It’ll only be the employers that locally put their jobs in that are built through incentives as well or are looking for employees here.’
Hudson says the first jobs are expected to be filled through this program starting in late summer.
Individuals and businesses are able to begin making accounts on the website.
