News 12 competes in Battle of the Bells

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Christmas is in the air and News 12 is ringing in the Holiday season with the annual Battle of The Bells.

“Today is the kickoff from our battles of L competition between our three favorite TV stations, and of course, Channel 12 being my favorite double digit station, but we are out here in front of Hamilton Place Mall at the food court. News 12 was out here until 6pm raising money for the Salvation Army,” said Major Douglas McClure, Area Command Officer, Salvation Army.

Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bells is a friendly competition between three news stations in Chattanooga

McClure considers this event The biggest fundraiser of the year.

“Whether it is our after school program, whether it is our home with our homeless outreach programs, whether it is things we do with our children, as far as our after school, things, all these programs need this kind of funding that we can not necessarily get from other places,” said Mcclure.

The Battle of the Bells has been going on in Chattanooga for quite a while now, and it’s for a very worthy cause.

“I can not imagine a holiday season not being a part of the battle of the bells is something we have done it for years and years and years, and it really gives the opportunity for everyone to chip in and help the Salvation Army do the most good,” said Chip Chapman, News 12 Anchor and Meteorologist.

Donations that are given will help the Salvation Army provide aid across our community.

And what better time to give than the holidays?

“It is important to me, because this community has been so good to me. It has been so good to you. It has been so good to just about all of us and it is a way of giving back to the community. Around this time, anywhere, people get caught up in their own to do list, helping out the Salvation Army should be at the top of that list,” Chapman concluded.

Folks can donated in News 12’s Kettle on the Salvation Army website.
