No threat after gun found at Ringgold Primary
RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) — Ringgold Primary’s school resource officer found a handbag containing a gun on school property. Officers took the firearm owner into custody and charged them with possession of a firearm on a school campus.
The school resource officer found the gun during an afterschool event at Ringgold Primary School. Officials say the handbag containing the gun was unattended.
The school resource officer took the handbag and found identification inside the bag.
A parent was the owner of the bag and gun. In addition, the parent had a carrying permit.
However, firearms are not allowed on school campuses. Georgia schools are weapon-free zones, according to Catoosa County Schools.
The sheriff’s department said there was no threat to Ringgold Primary or anyone at the school.
“Our highest priority is the safety of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Charles Nix. “I want to thank RPS administration, the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department, and the SRO for their expertise and professionalism.”
